Re: Seperatism in Bosnia – Together against Populists

Rumaenien 02 full

Ever since denying the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia-Herzegovina became a punishable offense, the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Milorad Dodik, has repeatedly threatened to secede Republika Srpska from the rest of the country. In Sarajevo, people are consciously fighting against the ethnic separation of the ethnic groups in their country.

In Banja Luka, blogger Srdjan Puhalo is fighting back against the nationalist propaganda of politicians in his part of Republika Srpska. In Mostar, in the Bosnian Croat part of the country, extreme nationalists are also stirring things up against a country that emerged as an ethnically divided state after the war in the 1990s. Two courageous women no longer want to put up with this and are fighting against the ethnic division that pervades all areas like a kind of apartheid and begins as early as school. Stefica Galic runs an online portal and runs a "school for critical thinking" in Mostar to build bridges between the hostile ethnic groups. And Irma Baralija is the first politician in the city parliament to take vigorous action against hate speech with an explicitly non-ethnic civic party. In Sarajevo, filmmaker Enes Bure Zlatan documents environmental crimes and denounces the massive corruption of many politicians. Tens of thousands of people have already turned their backs on Bosnia in recent years. The film accompanies those who stay and work for a better future.
